The theatre is born by Ordinance of Maria Theresa of Austria, on the remains of the old Teatro Regio of Villa Reale and what was left of the precarious Church of Santa Maria della Scala. It was August 1778, when the master Antonio Salieri, historical rival of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, initiated the room with the opera“ L’Europa Riconosciuta”

During the 19th century, the notes of Rossini, Verdi, Bellini and Donizetti, just to name a few among the most renowned, animated the Teatro alla Scala, till the next century, thanks to the presence of the famous conductor Arturo Toscanini, and to the creative genius of Giacomo Puccini, that here presented for the very first time masterpieces such as the “Turandot” and “Madame Butterfly”.

But on the most eligible stage in the world, there is not only singing. Impossible to forget the historical dancing deeds of Rudolf Nureyev and the most recent of Roberto Bolle, absolute references for the ballet universe, like Carla Fracci, whose legendary dancing career started exactly on this floor.
